This Malaysian photographer is seriously talented!

In these past few weeks on social media, we have seen a few videos of this Malaysian photographer who used only one LED light to recreate the Jalur Gemilang. His end products were really great and we couldn’t resist the chance to have a little chat with him!

Meet Patrick Teow, a KL-based photographer. Patrick specialises in the realms of commercial architecture and interior photography.

Speaking about the videos and the inspiration behind them, Patrick says that he wanted to show the contrast between the roots of KL (kampung baru) and also the modern KL city.

“I wanted to create a photo that contrast the humble heritage roots of KL against its modernity, to help remind fellow KLites and Malaysians in general of how far we have come as a nation, as we celebrate the country’s birthday.”

“So the kampung baru back alley foreground with our iconic twin towers at the back is a great location for this. “

Equipped with a light painting stick (Fotorgear Magilight), a camera and multiple props, Patrick took to the streets of KL to capture the essence of Malaysia in his own unique way.

Speaking on the effects of the pandemic on our country and on him, Patrick says that the MCO allowed him to do more creative photography at home but the bad side to it was that he had no income at that time.

“This is indeed a challenging time for many people, regardless of where they are in the world, as the pandemic is far-reaching. I do appreciate the various initiatives that the government has taken to extend help, and look forward to things improving in the near future.”

In conjunction with Merdeka and Malaysia day, Patrick would like to tell all his fellow Malaysians something;

“While the pandemic has kept us within our beloved country since earlier this year, I have turned to spending more time to explore our homeland, and uncovering its beauty.”

“There’s no better time than now to find time to get to know the various charming places in Malaysia better.”
