If you’re going to post about how great a country is, at least get the country right. Especially if that country happens to be our beloved Malaysia.

The Amazing View of Kuching, Sarawak Indonesia ??????#ASEANSKYLINE2020 #INDONESIA

Posted by ASEAN Skyline on Saturday, June 6, 2020

Recently, a Facebook page known as ASEAN Skyline came under fire from Malaysian netizens after posting a photo of a beautiful sunset view of Kuching’s skyline with the outrageous caption, “The Amazing View of Kuching, Sarawak Indonesia.”

Malaysian netizens were understandably outraged and made sure that the admin knew his mistakes by letting it rip in the comment section:

While it seemed like a harmless mistake that one with no geographical knowledge of SouthEast Asian countries could make, this isn’t the first time this Facebook page has come under scrutiny for attributing the beautiful sights of Malaysia to a different ASEAN nation.

In the comments, a netizen posted a screenshot of a different post made by the same page, showcasing the magnificent view of Kota Kinabalu. But this time instead of Indonesia, the post was captioned, “Kota Kinabalu, Sabah Philippines.”

“Ah no wonder this page looks familiar”, said the netizen. But it doesn’t stop there.

Turns out, there’s a reason why this page keeps mistaking Malaysian states for different ASEAN countries. And it’s not bad geographical knowledge.

A few netizens did some investigating and discovered that the FB page deliberately made unacceptable mistakes like this on purpose to attract traffic for their page. The more users comment on these posts, the more visitors this page gets. In fact, it was even discovered that the page was a knockoff of the original ASEAN Skyline:

Once they were exposed, netizens wasted no time and immediately reported the page for their false claims.

If you come across this page or any posts similar to this one, report it so it can be taken down! That’ll teach them for trying to mess with us, Malaysians.
