Since Hari Raya Aidilfitri will begin tomorrow, the Government wanted to remind Malaysians to be mindful of their actions amid the celebrations.

Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob urged Malaysians to appreciate the frontline workers who sacrificed themselves amid the battle against Covid-19. To put the appreciation into action, he said everyone should comply with the Conditional MCO (CMCO) measures.

While many will be celebrating Hari Raya Aidilfitri, the essential workers in the frontlines will be working as usual during the holidays. Ismail Sabri reminded everyone that we should be thoughtful of these workers amid a pandemic, according to the New Straits Times.

“A majority of frontliners, including the police, Fire and Rescue Department personnel, Immigration Department officers, the People’s Volunteers Corps (Rela), doctors, nurses and hospital staff, amongst others, will be working during Hari Raya Aidilfitri.”

During the press conference today (23 May), he urged Malaysians to not let these workers’ hard work to be in vain, and that everyone should follow the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and other precautionary measures enforced by the Government.

“Please do not let their hard work be in vain.

If you appreciate the sacrifices made by them, follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and regulations introduced by the government under the CMCO.”

Ismail Sabri thought of the need to remind Malaysians that recreational activities which involve large groups of people are still not allowed during the CMCO. Foreseeing that there will be people who want to play firecrackers in the evening during Hari Raya, he stated that it is not allowed if it involves large groups of people.

“I believe that there are people who want to play firecrackers in the evening on the first day of Hari Raya. Such activity, however, is not allowed if it involves a large group of people and that is included in the list of activities prohibited during the CMCO.”

Since it is the festive season, he warned parents to avoid bringing children to crowded areas, and that they need to be cautious when they bring their kids to playgrounds.

Ismail Sabri reminded parents that bringing kids to crowded places will expose them to risks of contracting Covid-19.

“As previously announced, recreational activities (involving small numbers of people) are allowed during the CMCO. If you want to bring one or two of your children to a playground, it is allowed. However, if this results in a mass gathering, it would fall under the list of prohibited activities,” he said.

“Taking our children to places which have crowds will risk (exposing them to the Covid-19 coronavirus).”

It is indeed a series of important reminders before the festivities commence, and we really hope that everyone will follow the SOPs of CMCO so that it won’t create another wave of the Covid-19 outbreak. Let us all cooperate and do our best to cease the spread of the coronavirus in Malaysia.

Stay safe and wash your hands, everyone.
