Without a liver transplant, this adorable toddler only has 6 months left to live!

A social enterprise known as PichaEats, formerly known as, The Picha Project, got into contact with 2-year-old Abdi’s father who applied to work as a chef for the organisation two weeks ago.

The enterprise, which aims to provide opportunities for refugees in Malaysia, offers catering by chefs who can cook food from their respective homelands for private or corporate events.

During the Picha team’s visit to the Somalian household for a food tasting session, they discovered that Abdi urgently needs a liver transplant in the next six months, as his life is at risk. However, the family isn’t eligible to receive a transplant as they aren’t Malaysian citizens.

Abdi’s family fled from Somalia to seek refuge in Malaysia back in 2018. According to Malay Mail, Suzanne Ling, co-founder of PichaEats, said she immediately noticed something unusual about the child when they first saw him. “We saw this cute little boy playing with his toys and something was off about him. He was breathing heavily, we could hear his phlegm in each breath, he was thin but his stomach was bloated, and his eyes were yellow in colour.”

“They told us, Abdi has liver failure. He is surviving on medication now and the only way he can make it is if he gets a liver transplant.” While the poor child is currently living off doses of monthly medication, it restricts him from breathing normally.

Without the transplant, doctors predict that the innocent child only has six months left. Desperate to seek help for the helpless, Ling managed to contact Dr Hartini, a medical professional who offered to perform the surgery but the problem of funding still remains.

In order to go through with the surgery, Abdi and his family would need to cover medical expenses that go up to a whooping RM300,000! Nonetheless, Dr.Hartini believes that every child deserves an equal shot at life. She is currently heading a fundraiser under Yayasan Chow Kit to possibly give little Abdi that opportunity.

“I am asking for your help to help this boy. He’s not my child, but he is a child and he deserves a chance to live,” pleads Ling to the public.
