Our amazing athlete has gone and done it again!

Malaysia’s national gymnast, Farah Ann Abdul Hadi just won our first-ever gold in the Ukraine International Cup 2019. She obtained the gold in the uneven bar event which took place in Kiev, Ukraine from 30 March until 1 April 2019. Amazing!

However, did you know that Farah was not supposed to take part in that event at all?

Her coach, Ng Shu Wai, said that another gymnast was slotted in for the uneven bar event but they decided to send Farah in after a discussion. Ng was quoted by The Star as saying,

“Tan Ing Yueh was slotted for the event but after a discussion, we went for Farah. Farah is the best in South-East Asia on the uneven bar and the move certainly paid off.”

FYI, Farah scored 12.900 in the event which won our first-ever gold in the above mentioned competition.

Farah shared her experience with the daily,

“It has been such an amazing experience here in Ukraine. I couldn’t have done it without my amazing coaches Nataliya (Sinkova) and Shu Wai who always push me to do my best and always believe in me. My teammates are also incredible, without them I wouldn’t be able to achieve this.”

Apart from a gold medal, Farah also managed to bag a silver and two bronzes in the competition. She won the silver medal in the floor exercise after scoring 13.200 points.

Ng was obviously very proud of Farah and believes that she can go to greater heights. On top of that, Ng noted that the girls’ next competition is the Artistic Gymnastics World Cup, which will take place in Chongqing, China.

“We will refine some of their routines before heading to China. But for their first competition, they have certainly done well,” Ng explained.

On the other hand, Tan also did well in Kiev because she managed to win the silver medals in the balance beam and all around. Plus, she won a bronze for the team event too. Nice!

Meanwhile, the men’s team bagged bronze medals for pommel horse and the parallel bar. According to Ng’s brother, Ng Shu Liang, they have done pretty well for their first competition. If you didn’t know, Ng Shu Liang is their coach.

On that note, we congratulate our Malaysian gymnastics team for a job well done and we hope that they will continue to make us proud on an international pedestal. Good job, guys!
