While we’ve had a rain pour in certain parts of Kuala Lumpur yesterday (27 February 2019), several cities in Malaysia are still suffering from the heatwave. In fact, dams in several states have been drying up fast too.

According to NST, here are some of the states where the dams are starting to dry up,

  • Johor
  • Sabah
  • Penang
  • Kelantan

On 25 February 2019, a report by MetMalaysia revealed that we will experience a heatwave with the temperature going as high as 36.9°C for three days straight starting from 24 February 2019. After that, on 26 February 2019, The Star reported that the temperature will continue to rise all over the country.

In a statement by MetMalaysia, the northeast monsoon will come to end by March 2019 and the heatwave is expected to calm down by the end of April 2019.

Having said that, since the heatwave is something we can’t avoid, the Ministry of Health has shared several ways we can deal with the scorching heat until it comes to an end. So, here are 7 things we can do to cope with the current heatwave:

  1. Drink lots of water regardless of your physical activities
  2. Spend more time at home and limit outdoor activities
  3. Limit the intake of caffeine, alcohol and sugary drinks
  4. Use the fan or air conditioner to keep your body cool at all times
  5. Wear lighter, airy clothes. Make sure they are bright and loose!
  6. Do not sit in a fully closed car without any air conditioner
  7. Use a hat or umbrella when going outside to protect your body from receiving direct heat from the sun.
