Let’s be honest. How many of us can go a day without our smartphone?

To live a day without checking your messages, scrolling through your social media feed, or taking pictures of those mouth-watering food is practically torture.

In other words, we Malaysians are pretty much dependent on our devices. Or as we’d like to call it, “tech savvy”.

So what are the reasons we can’t survive without our phones? Check out these 9 reasons below!

1. We are healthy

We make sure to always EXERCISE… our fingers, even if we’re laying down on our comfy bed.

There’s no better way to exercise than running our fingers through our phone’s screen keyboard, double tapping instagram pictures or swiping through our social media feed. Now that’s what we call a good workout!

2. We’re responsible individuals

We keep people updated with what’s happening to us so they’d know we’re safe and wouldn’t have to worry.

From tweeting updates that we’re at home (because we don’t have a life), or how much we’re enjoying our night out at this cool new cafe/bar through Snapchat, to letting them know we landed safely in another country based on that standard passport + air ticket picture we’d post to Facebook. We’re so considerate right???

3. Sharing is caring

That tantalising picture we posted at 1am about our delicious lunch in that awesome restaurant? You’re welcome!

But of course, don’t forget the stream of “tak ajak” and “bojio” comments that pour into your comment section afterwards!

Not to mention sharing some cool promos like winning a new smartphone through Shopee’s Fortune Ang Pao for only a crazy 1 Ringgit!

4. We make other people’s lives a better place

We bless our friends’ social media feeds with the beautiful pictures we take! From scenic pictures, foodie ones, to most importantly – our very own selfies. Especially when we have the perfect #OOTD on.

Who’s life wouldn’t be better after seeing our cute selves right? 😉

5. Our inner Sherlock Holmes is itching to be unleashed

You know what he/she ate for breakfast, you know when his/her pet dog died. You know everything. Plus checking a person’s “last online” or “last seen” is unfortunately becoming a habit.

While some people might call it ‘stalking’, we’d prefer the term ‘keeping updated’.

6. We’re firm believers of equality

We whip our phones out, open the calculator app and always split the bill fairly. It’s not being ‘kedekut’, it’s practicing equality.

Sides, we’re Asian. You don’t expect me to split your RM50 meal when I just had one Teh O Ais do you? Oh yes, and not forgetting that 6% GST!

7. Because we’re social butterflies

Or seem like it anyway.

Stuck in an awkward situation? Just pull out your phone and try your best to act busy!

Besides, our phones make the best friends because once too often we’d find ourselves arriving early at our destination while waiting for our friends who are “on the way”.

8. For when our mom calls

Malaysian moms can be quite the tigress when they get mad. And ‘not-answering-their-phone-mad’ is the worse situation you’d ever want to put yourself in. So do we really wanna risk that chance of going a day without our phone?

9. Ultimately, how else are we going to tell the time anyway??

“Lemme see what time it is on my watch,” said practically only 5% of the population. Don’t quote us on this.

Then again, it’s not like it really helps with our Malaysian timing anyway.
