9 Hilarious Things Malaysian Parents Do Thanks to the Internet

11 Things Malaysian Parents Do On The Internet - World Of Buzz

Gone are the days where we used to call or message one another via SMS or MMS (yes, MMS). Today, everyone has access to laptops or smartphones with WiFi or 3G connection and you know how much ‘trouble’ they cause – even among the Gen X-ers, or more commonly known to us as ‘mom’ and ‘dad’, or ‘aunty’ and ‘uncle’.

Have you ever wondered what your parents do on the internet though? Well, we’ve gone through some of our parents’ internet activities–with their permission of course–and we’ve got some interesting things to share with you! Most of which we’re sure you can relate to as well!

So here are some things your parents have probably done on the internet before:

1. Tagging us in the most embarrassing photos known to mankind

Years and years of building and maintaining our reputation, gone down the drain, just like that. How are we supposed to maintain our cool street cred when parents are tagging us in our old naked baby pictures, ugly high school photos and more.

Mom, plis!

2. Leaving sappy comments on photos/posts we’re tagged in

We love you too mom and dad, but why? Just, why? Paiseh, lah.

3. When they just don’t get autocorrect

Or…

That escalated pretty quickly.

4. Being part of 1,273,786 group chats on WhatsApp

I’m not even kidding, I just opened my dad’s WhatsApp and the first 7 chats are group chats!

Every parent seems to be a part of enormous chat groups with messages constantly flooding in. Sometimes, they even get more notifications than we do. Happening giler. No, I am not jealous.

5. They don’t get acronyms and symbols

A lot like this mom…

No mom, “Lol” does not stand for “lots of love”.

Or this mom…

Oh, mom. I still less than three you.

6. They stalk us

We all know parents lurk around their kids’ Facebook wall and check in from time to time to know the latest updates from their baby dearest.

It can be fun having our parents as friends on social media, just not when they start interrogating us about that boy/girl that keeps appearing on our feed. We’re just friends I swear!

7. Uploading blurry, pixelated or low-res photos that they took

“Look what I made for dinner!”

Sometimes these photos even become their display pictures. It’s painful to watch, but hilariously cute at the same time.

8. Getting impatient because their pages suddenly take forever to load

They freak out and start blaming some virus that they think infected their computer or phone, sometimes they even ask if we payed the phone bill on time… padahal, it was just slow internet connection.

But for real tho, what century are we living in??? The stone age??? Why so slow!

9. Every time we go out with them, they ask, “got WiFi?” or “how to connect to WiFi?”

Turns out we’re not very different from our parents, after all. Especially for those of us without a data connection, going somewhere with WiFi is of utmost priority. What else are we or our parents supposed to do to get out of awkward situations? SMS ah?

Also, how can they Skype their kids who are studying overseas or WhatsApp/Video Call their own parents living in other states?

The world becomes a pretty dark place without the internet.

That’s why, in this day and age where the internet is everything, it’s so important that we not only get fast internet, but data to be connected 24-7, anywhere and everywhere too!

It should be illegal to have slow connection, or worse, no connection at all!

Thankfully, much like power outages that happened way too often during our parents’ childhood days, sluggish internet connections are going to be a thing of the past! Being Malaysia’s first 4G and Fibre Network, the Maxis One Network is a force to be reckoned with. You, your parents, and even your grandparents can count on Maxis’ One Network to be there for you wherever, whenever, and on whatever device you’re using.
