Remember the recent news of a little boy who accidentally brought his bantal busuk to school? Well, that news definitely melted the hearts of many netizens but how many of us could relate to the boy’s action? I know I did. Whether we like to admit it or not, it is undeniable that we had or still have an inexplicable attachment to our bantal busuk. If so, here are 8 things you can definitely relate to if you ever had a bantal busuk.

1. Bantal > Friends and lover

Our bantal busuk has been through it all. Nothing nor no one can ever take that away from us! That poor fella has suffered every one of our emotions. Like when we got angry with our parents, our bantal was the punching bag where we unleashed our rage!

Or when we got sad, and it soaked up our tears whilst providing our head constant support. Just like a best friend!

In short, you could say our bantal busuk was our one true support system. *wipes tear*

2. It comes in all shapes and sizes… even types

They come in various forms, be it short or long, big or small. In fact, some bantal busuk even come in the form of plush toys like ducks and teddy bears. No discrimination though, there’s not one that’s better than the other!

Either way, we always love our bantal with all of our heart!

3. NO ONE can touch our precious bantal

Seriously though, no ONE can ever come near and touch our beloved bantal. Not even our siblings or a newborn infant – that’s just how it is.

The thing is, once another person lays their finger on our bantal, it will never be the same again. That’s because the bantal is sacred and no one but the owner should be permitted to use it, or else it’ll be contaminated.

4. Whenever friends came over your place

At one point, all of us pretended we didn’t own a bantal busuk because we wanna act all grown up. So if we had anyone coming over, we’d run lightning speed to hide our bantal from them. But once your friends are out the door… *takes a deep sniff*

5. It’s practically illegal to wash your bantal busuk

For a normal pillow or bolster to become a bantal busuk, it requires time and precision – just like wine. It takes time to brew the smell and washing will only disrupt the process. The ‘smellier’ it is, the better.

6. Not being able to bring our bantal busuk for holiday

Chances are, every one of us has experienced this at least once. Whenever we’re going for a vacation, we’d have to leave our bantal busuk behind, because we don’t have enough space to bring it along… Or because we prefer to hide it from our friends/relatives. Oh, the despair of having to abandon it at home!

Also, the loneliness we felt every time we slept without it beside us.

Everything will be A-okay post-vacay though, because we’d finally be able to reunite with our bantal busuk once we’re home!

7. Crying over it after our parents throw them out

As mentioned earlier, that bantal IS life. So, if our parents were to throw it out, you can bet we’re going to flip out, wei!

We all know that day too well. On that unfortunate day, you get home and go into your room only to find that your bantal is missing from its usual spot. Nevermind, you think, trying to be optimistic. You then ask your mum about it and she casually says, “Oh, I’ve thrown it away.” At that exact moment, you feel your whole world crashing down. What is real anymore? You don’t know for sure, but all you know is that you’ll never see your bantal busuk ever again. Why ma, why?!

Seeing how torn we’ve become, our mum would then buy us a new bantal. Sure, we understand her good intention, but it’s just not the same, kay?

8. Having a bantal busuk even though you’re already an adult

This group is one of the lucky ones. These people had somehow managed to hold on to their bantal busuk till their adulthood. How did they do it? One will never understand but one will always salute these ‘soldiers’.

You terrer, bang or sis! You have gone against all odds just to keep your bantal busuk. May you and your bantal busuk live happily ever after!

There’s no doubt that we’ve had an unspeakable connection with our bantal busuk – maybe we’re attached to it because we had it for a long time, or maybe it just reminds us of a person we love (the one who gave it to us perhaps?). Either way, the bantal busuk is probably the most valuable thing we’ve ever owned! Let us know if you still own your bantal busuk up to this day!
