A 6-year-old boy in China, Xiao Zhu, had a terrifying accident when he fell while eating a lollipop.
According to local media Guangzhou Daily, the bamboo stick from the maltose lollipop pierced through his mouth, as reported by Sinar Harian.

The stick reached his skull and brain
As Xiao Zhu tried to break his fall with his hands, the stick ended up piercing through his mouth and reaching the base of his skull and brain, causing excruciating pain.
His panicked parents rushed him to the hospital, where doctors immediately conducted an emergency CT scan.
The scan showed that an 11-centimeter bamboo stick had gone into the part of his brain that controls movement and coordination.

A life-or-death situation
Doctors at Zhongshan First Hospital said Xiao Zhu’s condition was critical and that removing the stick would be a highly risky procedure.
“The stick had hit a major blood vessel at the base of the skull that sends blood from the brain to the heart. One wrong move could’ve caused severe bleeding, making it a life-or-death situation,” a doctor explained.
After a tense 7-hour surgery, doctors managed to remove the stick without harming his brain or blood vessels.
Surprisingly, he recovered without any nerve damage and was discharged 2 weeks later with no complications, infections, or excessive bleeding.
