2016 draws to a close and New Year’s Eve is just around the corner. For most of us, it’s time to celebrate! That sounds like a plan, right? Until you think about the crowd and traffic you have to face throughout the celebration.

If you’re anything like me, you’ll be drowned by the anxiety of being crammed up in the crowd. Sure, you’d have your friends by your side, but to also be sandwiched by random strangers? No, thank you!

Not to mention the frustration of being stuck in your car, at the same spot for hours on end because everyone is rushing to leave, at the same time.

Fret not, here are some alternatives you could go to for a change of ambience:

1. Jaya One

A mixture of al fresco and indoor that covers both dining and shopping experience, Jaya One looks to be a promising spot within Petaling Jaya. On certain weekends, they also have an assortment of bazaars taking place here. There are plenty of F&B outlets to whet your appetite too. Also for you drinking kakis, there’s plenty of bars to get into the pre-countdown mood such as Brussels or even Malones!

2. SetiaWalk

Getting from Puchong to anywhere within KL city centre can prove to be a challenge. Thankfully, SetiaWalk is an answer to the locals. It caters to everything you need; from dining, to shopping, to fun activities, they have it all here. Not to mention, the scenery from the rows of the shop facing the water feature at night is a view to behold. Did we also mention there’s an Escape Room here?

3. Publika

Every corner is a place waiting for you to explore, and you’ll always end up finding a new place to visit. Not to mention the bazaar that adds a little more life to the retail strip within. An assortment of F&B outlets that cater to a wide spectrum of cuisine is scattered throughout, giving you a myriad of choices to choose from. Also, it has a host of events running from time-to-time, be it at individual outlets or by the mall itself!

4. Setia City Mall

Quite a distance from the KL city centre, Setia City Mall is tucked away in Shah Alam and is an ideal retreat from the traffic while still retaining the urbane atmosphere. The mall is equipped with F&B and retail to keep you busy for the rest of the day. Not surprising if they utilised their outdoor field for a countdown event of sort, so do check it out too!

5. SS15

While this may not be a mall, but walk along the streets and you’ll find cafes and eateries aplenty! For those who still play Pokemon GO, or loves cafe-hopping, it’s littered with choices to sate your appetite. This place is always buzzing regardless of the time of day. There’s always some new eatery or cafe to discover, so be sure to come back again to check out the scene.
