The Johor Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) recently revealed that 4 China nationals have been apprehended by its enforcement officers during an operation dubbed ‘Ops Serkap’ in and around Johor Bahru on 23 and 24 September 2024.

In a statement, Johor JIM director Dato Hj Mohd Rusdi said that the 4 men from China are physically impaired and took a ‘shortcut’ to wealth by becoming beggars at premises and strategic locations in the Johor capital.

Furthermore, the Johor JIM director revealed that with their physical impairments as their ‘capital’, they were able to earn up to a whopping RM10,000 a month.

Additionally, Rusdi said that JIM suspects there’s a syndicate behind their activities, given how they acted in groups and continuously change locations.

The Johor JIM director further revealed,

“In fact, when we conducted our operation, some of the suspects tried to flee to Ipoh via bus at a terminal.”

As for Ops Serkap, Rusdi revealed that the 4 China nationals arrested were men between 36 and 67 years old, with the operation also seizing RM9,000 cash in their possession.

They are all arrested under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for not having a valid pass or permit to be in Malaysia and Section 15(1)(c) of the same Act for overstaying.

Johor JIM views this syndicate’s activities seriously and urges locals with info on such activities to come forward and lodge a report.
