A kid in Kulim, Kedah passed away this morning after eating poisonous crackers during the weekend. The victim, Muhammad Aqil Syauki, was only 3 years old.

His younger brother, Luth Syauqi, is currently still in the ICU. How did the innocent souls end up with poisonous keropok in their stomach?

In a report by Berita Harian, the siblings mistook some crackers as food for human consumption which they found tied to a fence. Little did they know, the crackers were “marinated” with rat poison. They were placed there by the neighbor to scare away wild animals that caused harm to the plantations.

It didn’t take long for the brothers to come up with severe symptoms, such as vomiting and trembling bodies before they were rushed to Hospital Kulim in Kedah.

The fence is only located 50 meters away from their house.

The brothers were then rushed to the Pediatric Intensive Unit Care (PICU) in Penang.

PDRM in Kedah said Aqil passed away this morning at 8:30am. Nurain, the mother to the 2 young brothers broke down just outside the ward room upon receiving the heartbreaking news.

What about the neighbor?

In an interview, the mother, Nurain said that as of now, the family has yet to think about what to do with the neighbors who placed the poisonous crackers on the fence as a booby trap.

“I don’t know if I’m going to take action against them, or just forgive them. For now, I just want to focus on my family.”

When asked if the neighbors had reached out to them to discuss the unexpected tragedy, Nuraini said “no”.

Our thoughts and prayers go to the grieving family during this tough time. Hopefully, Luth will be fine.
