With the British band Coldplay slated to perform in KL in November this year, the concert “fever” is stronger than ever. Ever since the transition into endemicity, many concertgoers have been able to attend shows of their favourite performers.
Of course, not everyone has the luxury to attend shows, mostly due to price, timing, or simply because they hate crowd and prefer to blast songs in the car. Regardless, one should never be judged just because they’re not part of the concert trend.
With talks about ongoing concerts, a Malaysian man described how he was belittled for never going to a concert, despite being 28 years old.
“You don’t know how to enjoy life”
In a conversation with his friend, who had attended both Jay Chou and Mayday concerts a few months back, the man was asked if he went to the concerts of both mentioned performers.
He said no, and explained to his friend that he has never been to any concerts before. To his friend, this is not a way to live life to the fullest.
“You’re 28 and you’ve never been to any concerts. You don’t know how to enjoy life.”
The man did not respond to his friend. Not verbally, at least, because he had something to tell him mentally.
“You’re just there to share the moments on your IG story. You only know some of their songs but you call yourself their biggest fan.”
“Enjoying life is doing whatever you like”
Some netizens took the opportunity to explain that concerts are not the only way to enjoy life, but enjoying life simply means doing whatever you like to do.
“I’m a fan of the late Teresa Tang, so should I go into the afterlife to watch her concert?”
“Enjoying life is doing what you like. What you enjoy may be a torment to others, and everyone has their own hobbies. What you like may not be what others like too.”
“So, it’s considered not knowing how to enjoy life now if we haven’t been to any concerts?”
Another netizen then highlighted that one should prioritise what’s important at the time being.
“We don’t go to concerts because we want to enjoy life. The price of 1 ticket is enough for me to eat rounds of fancy meals, my house rental, and a few clothes.”
The confession post was shared on the Facebook page Xuan Play, which you can read here.
If being amongst crowd and living in the moment with other fans while singing your favourite songs is what you enjoy, go for it! Some may not just have the capability for it, or simply want some me-time and serenity while listening to their favourite songs by themselves.
