To live with a salary of RM5,000 every month in KL may be enough (or barely), but the figure is considered good in today’s salary range, depending on the industry that you’re in.
A 26-year-old woman who earns RM5,500 a month recently said that she has met people who don’t think her monthly wage is good enough, and the people include her boyfriend’s mother. The woman did not disclose her job but she admitted to coming from a family with some issues – she’s living with only her mother, according to an anonymous post shared by Tantan Confessions Malaysia.
Despite her salary, her BF’s mum is not fond of her because she’s not working in these specific industries – law firms and banking.
“My BF’s mum is also not happy that I’m living with my single parent. She thinks I’m not fit for her son.”
As for her BF’s family, the situation is different. According to the woman, her BF’s family runs a business that “looks cool”, elevating her insecurities despite having a good job with good pay.
“My peers are getting married but I’m stuck”
The woman then explained throughout her dating life, she has met a lot of men who were not so happy with her family background, causing her self-esteem to plummet as days go by.
“The same experiences have made me feel afraid to date, to be in a relationship.”
Her pressure is even stronger when her peers are all married, and some have even started a family.
“I feel like I’m old and I’m stuck. My friends are all married with kids, and here I am. Does this mean I’m not meant for all this?”
Truthfully, it’s not too late to get married after 26 (and she’s certainly not old)! Not all men care about family background and how much their partners make but when other family members come into the picture, what do you think she can do to stay in the relationship?
