Public displays of affection (PDA) are acts of physical intimacy in the view of others. What is considered an acceptable amount of PDA varies by location, culture and context, to name a few factors.

One type of public space that may seem rather obvious as an inappropriate place to show PDA are religious institutions.

Unfortunately, two men in Banting, Kuala Langat seemed to not have understood that unspoken rule when they were caught on CCTV footage committing indecent acts in a surau

In the 1 minute 50 second viral video that has been widely circulated, both men can be seen kneeling at the back row with another man sitting on their front right. They appeared as if they had just completed their prayers.

One of the two men then reached towards his partner and started kissing and being touchy with him. The guy who was on the receiving end appeared to be more passive in the interaction.

The men’s crude behaviour has angered the public who were upset that they not only disrespected the surau, a religious institution but were also so obscene as to commit those acts even though another person was present.

Consequently, the police are now actively tracking down the two men. Kuala Langat District Police Chief, Superintendent Ahmad Ridhwan Mohd Nor said a police report regarding the incident was received at about 9.07pm on October 26, 2022 (Wednesday).

“Based on the report made by the 54-year-old muezzin of the surau, he stated that he saw the CCTV footage showing 2 local men committing indecent acts. Investigations are underway to locate the perpetrators in the CCTV footage involved,” Admad Ridhwan said in a statement on Thursday.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 377D of the Penal Code, which is committing an act of extreme obscenity in a public place, which provides for a prison sentence of up to 2 years if found guilty.

He added that anyone who has information about the perpetrators in this case are asked to contact the Investigating Officer of the case, Inspector Norhidayah Mohd at 017-4055363 or 03-31872222 to assist with the investigation.
