2 Killed In Penang After 16yo Driver With No Valid License Crashes Into Them

In the wee hours of the morning on 11 November, an accident involving a motorcycle, a car and a lorry took place at Kilometre 1.9 (Perai-bound) of the Penang Bridge.

This accident caused the death of a male motorcyclist with his female pillion rider, both in their 20s after they sustained severe injuries.

It is said that they were going back to their home after having a meal near Bayan Lepas.

According to BERNAMA, a 16-year-old driving a Toyota Lexus (his mother’s car) had hit the lorry in front of him and caused it to lose control, hitting the motorcycle in front.

Central Seberang Perai district police chief ACP Tan Cheng San said that the student with no valid license had driven his mother’s car to visit his friends on the island and was heading back to Bukit Mertajam when the crash took place.

The 16-year-old driver sustained minor injuries while the lorry driver was uninjured.

ACP Tan Cheng San added:

“The car driver has been arrested and remanded for a day to faciliate investigations (under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987) into the crash. Blood samples have been taken to determine if he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.”

He also urged those who witnessed the crash or have information regarding it to contact the investigating officer, Insp Muhammad Sufi Abd Razak at 013-4774542 or 04-5382222, or the nearest police station.
