2 siblings, aged 2 and 3, faced a scary situation after climbing onto a baggage conveyor belt machine at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) in Sabah on Wednesday night (5 November) at about 9:30 PM.

The 2-year-old child had apparently gotten trapped in the machine while his 3-year-old sister was exposed to radiation.

2 young siblings got stuck on the baggage conveyor belt machine of KKIA

According to a report by Berita Harian, Kota Kinabalu Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) Chief Mohd Hannis Mokhtar shared that his department received an emergency call regarding the incident at 9:52 PM before a team of personnel was deployed to the scene to assist.

“Upon arriving at the location, the fire brigade found that 2 children were believed to have entered the baggage conveyor machine area at the KKIA inspection hall. We used special equipment to remove the trapped victims before the 2 children were handed over to the medical team to be sent to Likas Hospital for further examination and treatment,” he said.

Both victims were reported safe, and the operation ended at 10:20 PM, after it was confirmed that there was no longer any risk at the location.

The public, especially parents, were advised to always monitor the movement of children in public areas to prevent such incidents from recurring.
