Are earthquakes really punishment from God?
Earlier today (23 Oct) at the Dewan Rakyat, opposition leader Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi shared that he is concerned for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community and the effect it has (or will have) on the country.
This is because, he claimed that the earthquake and tsunami in Palu, Indonesia was a punishment from God due to the actions of the LGBT community as it was reported that there are more than 1,000 members in the community. According to The Star, he said,
“The whole area was destroyed as part of God’s punishment.”
As such, he is afraid that Malaysia may suffer the same fate. He said,
“We look at the situation in Malaysia, we are worried because we know what happened in Palu recently where there was an earthquake and tsunami.”
“My question here is how effective is your programme to avoid our country from facing a similar wrath from God?”
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa responded by saying that the LGBT situation in this country is under control.
He added that the government’s stand on this issue is clear; it is not accepted, however, the government has different ways of addressing it.
“As a Muslim, Allah has said that no wrath shall befall unless it is with his own permission. If we study the Quran, there were tribes that were annihilated because of their utterly blatant actions,” Mujahid said, according to Malay Mail.
“The difference is, their actions were too obvious, they did it openly without feeling ashamed. In our country, the situation of LGBT today is an issue, but it’s under control.”
What are your thoughts about his statement? Do you really think the natural disasters that took place were God’s way of punishing humankind due to the activities of the LGBT community? Let us know in the comments!
