A retiree is making waves online after he discovered his Employees Provident Fund (EPF) savings mysteriously increased by over RM320,000.

On March 20, he told See Hua Daily News that he initially assumed it was just a technical glitch from an upgrade.

His statement showed nothing unusual

Since he regularly checks his EPF balance on the mobile application, he figured it would return to normal soon.

But when he checked again 2 days later, the extra RM320,000 was still there, making him worry that if an error could add money, it could also take money away.

He then took a screenshot of his inflated balance as proof, and by the next morning, the extra amount was still there. But when he checked his official statement, nothing appeared out of the ordinary.

His friend had a similar experience

The retiree decided to take matters into his own hands and went to an EPF branch to get some answers.

Despite the staff reassuring him that there was nothing to worry about as long as his official statement reflected the correct amount, he remained sceptical, especially since he wasn’t the only one facing this issue.

A friend he met around 8 AM that morning checked the EPF app and was shocked to see an extra RM150,000 in his balance. But by 10 AM, when he checked again, everything was back to normal.
