Human Resource Minister and Bukit Mertajam MP, Steven Sim, recently showcased how Prime Minister, Anwar Ibrahim, had assisted in tearing down an elderly woman’s dilapidated house and rebuilding it into a beautiful home for her and her differently-abled brothers.

And, it turns out that this isn’t the first time Anwar Ibrahim saved the woman’s home.

Steven Sim took to his X account to share a little bit about the woman, Auntie Woon’s, background before showcasing the before and after transformation of her home under Anwar Ibrahim’s administration.

He wrote, “57-year-old Auntie Woon has to work by collecting recyclable items to take care of her sickly brothers, 59-year-old Ah Kong, who has been bedridden for 5 years; and 62-year-old Ah Keong, who is mentally disabled.”

“These 3 elderly siblings live from scratch. Their dilapidated heritage house in Pekan Permatang Pauh is in very bad condition, the wood is rotten, the flooring is broken, and it is full of recyclable items. Kind people asked our office to help them. In less than a month, our team restored the condition of their heritage house.”

This isn’t the first time!

While doing a tour of the house before it was torn down for restoration work, Auntie Woon revealed to Steven Sim that the house was supposed to be torn down in 1990, to make way for a road.

But, Anwar Ibrahim had gotten involved and saved the house.

“At that time, DS (Datuk Seri) Anwar Ibrahim was Timbalan (Deputy Prime Minister). He said, ‘Yes, can I help you?‘. After that, he gave a letter that saved our house,” she said, adding that Anwar Ibrahim’s daughter and former Permatang Pauh MP, Nurul Izzah Anwar, also donated a bed to them.

“Now, it’s the year 2025, it is Anwar Ibrahim’s government, he is going to help build you a new house, Auntie,” Steven Sim responded.

Upon showing Auntie Woon her newly restored home, Steven told Auntie Woon:

“Now, DS Anwar Ibrahim has sent me to rebuild your home and make it pretty. In the year 1990, DS Anwar helped to ensure your home wasn’t demolished. In the year 2025, it’s the same, DS Anwar came to help.”
