Getting mistaken for a celebrity is often a compliment, and the flattery grows even more when strangers approach you for photos. Malaysia-based British food vlogger, Rhys William, is no stranger to this situation, as he has been mistaken for a star from a local historical epic.

For years, Rhys has been mistaken for Geoff Andre Feyaerts, a Belgian actor who starred as Captain Syers in the popular Malaysian film ‘Mat Kilau’.

Below is what Geoff looks like as Captain Syers in the local historical epic, which was released in 2022. Within two months of its release, the movie grossed over RM97 million, outperforming Marvel blockbusters.

The resemblance is uncanny, right?

“Oh, you’re not him? It’s okay, then”

Taking to his Threads account, Rhys revealed that an aunty approached him for a picture, thinking he was Captain Syers from Mat Kilau. The aunty initially requested a photo without stating his resemblance to the Belgian actor.

Rhys, who was in the middle of his meal, stood up and prepared to take a picture, but when the aunty asked if he was the actor in Mat Kilau, Rhys, who speaks fluent Bahasa Melayu, truthfully said no.

“Oh no, that’s another actor. I’m the vlogger.”

After discovering she had approached the wrong person, the aunty reconsidered, and the brief photo session was called off

One of the social media users suggested that Rhys collaborate with Geoff not only to clarify their identities, but also try out British and Belgian dishes.

If you didn’t already know, Rhys has been calling Malaysia home for over 10 years now, during which time he learned to speak Bahasa Melayu fluently, as seen in his vlogs where he sounds just like a local.

Do you think Rhys and Geoff look alike?
