A homeowner in China, who was in bed, was shocked when his door with a smart lock was unlocked for a stranger.

The stranger, who was actually a food deliveryman, had his face “recognized” by the Xiaomi Smart Lock at the door.

A video is currently circulating on Weibo, a Chinese social media platform, and according to the homeowner, he ordered some food while doing his work in bed. The homeowner, Shi, was shocked as he had mentioned to the deliveryman earlier to leave the food at the door.

The deliveryman obliged, but the door unlocked itself.

The confused deliveryman turned back to look at the door, but later walked down the staircase and left the place. Shi told a Chinese media the incident happened on August 10, around 10:22 PM, when his Xiaomi Smart Door Lock 2 Pro unlocked the door for the deliveryman. According to him, this was the first time that he encountered such an issue with his smart lock.

Surprisingly, the deliveryman resembles Shi’s face, which caused the door to unlock.

Shi then contacted Xiaomi’s customer service to lodge a report about the matter. A Xiaomi representative then told Shi that the issue shouldn’t have happened with the smart lock, but in Shi’s case, it could be due to a software or component problem.

Shortly after the matter, Xiaomi also took the opportunity to inform other users to immediately reach out to them should similar problems arise. An after-sales technician will be sent to the house to inspect the smart lock before referring the matter to an expert to rectify the issue.

To those who are using a smart lock at home, have you encountered any issues with your device?
