Online shopping has become a habit for most of us, and we understand that what we receive may not be up to our expectations.

A Singapore woman named Jane ordered a 3D durian cake online just in time to celebrate her mother’s 70th birthday.

But she was shocked upon receiving her order on the big day as she saw that the 3D cake had been smashed into a green paste.

Here’s a photo of what the 3D cake was supposed to look like:

That looks like a gorgeous cake tbh! It really does resemble a real durian and the baker’s amazing craftsmanship should definitely be applauded.

Its price, SGD188 (approximately RM574) is also a ‘beautiful’ figure. If Jane was willing to pay this amount of money for a marvel like that, we’re sure that she must’ve wanted the best she could give her mother.

So it makes it extra sad that what she received instead was THIS:

According to mothership.sg, Jane ordered the cake via Lazada and it was supposed to be delivered on 20 June, which was her mum’s birthday. Her mum had been anticipating this cake because she wanted to have a try, but that eagerness ended when they looked into the box.

Jane mentioned that the delivery man allegedly “flipped and spun the box like it’s a hot potato” when the much-anticipated cake arrived.

Feeling bummed out by the green paste she received, Jane was afraid that her mum’s birthday had been ruined.

She then complained to the customer service and got the full SGD188 refund and an extra SGD10 in-store credit for her unpleasant experience.

Unsatisfied about the refund, she brought this issue to the Group Head of Supermarket at Lazada Group in hopes of getting this cake-fail resolved.

Since her complaint hadn’t been replied to in time, she quickly purchased another cake in the afternoon. However, after she had already bought a new cake, Lazada responded and offered to buy Jane and her family a new durian cake.

Still feeling disappointed, Jane said:

“It wasn’t the same cake.”

In the end, the management delivered the replacement cake just in time for her mum’s birthday dinner celebration.

Here’s Lazada’s response when Mothership sent an enquiry:

“We are aware of the incident and have been in touch with the customer to resolve the issue. We regret that she had a negative experience, and a replacement cake has been delivered in time for the celebration. We wish her mother a happy 70th birthday.”

Regardless of the replacement cake being the same or not, honestly, it was professional of Lazada to have it delivered with a sense of urgency.
