Dissatisfied that his daughter was accused of stealing, a father attacked a grocery store owner in Jalan Datuk Ismail Hashim, Sungai Ara, Penang, yesterday (July 6).

During the incident, which took place at 1:40pm, the man assaulted the head of the female store owner, who is also the wife of former Bayan Lepas State Assemblyman, Azrul Mahathir Aziz.

According to a report by Berita Harian, Azrul Mahathir shared that it all started when his wife was approached by an unknown man at the grocery store before asking about the accusation that his daughter had stolen from the store.

His wife then admitted to detaining a school student, who is estimated to be about 11 years old, at the premise when the girl allegedly shoplifted by putting snack items into her bag.

“Shortly after the child left, the man entered the shop and attacked by knocking my wife on the head. He tried to knock my wife’s head for a second time, but she managed to avoid it before asking a shop worker to call the police,” he said.

Before leaving the store, the man had also said that he would return to the store with his wife.

“Following that, a police report was made at the Teluk Kumbar Police Stations at 4:50pm for the man’s actions and for the safety of my wife and the store workers,”

“It is not appropriate for a man to do such things against a woman. The incident was also recorded through a closed circuit camera (CCTV) at the premises,” he added.
