Many election candidates have been talking to the people as part of their campaigns for GE15.

On 9 November, a 2-minute video of a woman talking to a candidate went viral on Twitter with more than 450,000 views and 8,000 retweets.

In the video, we can hear her introduce herself as Karen and by her side is the BN candidate Daniel Ling. She urged all Malaysians to go and vote for this GE15.

“At the end of the day, it’s for the future generation. We must drain the swamp and any corruption must be gone because this is the future of Malaysia we’re talking about.”

Daniel was very supportive of this point and said that they want a “fair government, stable government so that investors can come in, more jobs can be created and there will be more job opportunities for the rakyat”.

Karen agreed and asked what has BN done in the past 50 years. The candidate says, “I’m trying to serve the people if given the opportunity. I will try my best to serve with my ability, but then I cannot promise you the sky and the moon, because I have limitations”.

“When I was young, my mother would always say that if you cannot do something then you cannot promise other people that.”

He elaborated by saying that broken promises can result in the loss of respect among other things. The candidate also mentioned that he keeps his parents’ teachings in his life.

After listening to that, Karen also talked about what her parents had taught her which is “don’t steal money, don’t steal others’ belongings and don’t steal other people’s money. But in Malaysia, it is corrupted one you know”.

The candidate moved away and tried to leave but Karen said, “when I talk about corruption, you want to go“.

The video ended there but in Daniel Ling’s live stream, we see him taking a stance against corruption.

“Everything I do for this campaign, for this election, I use my own money.”

He also mentioned that PH’s candidate, Hannah Yeoh is a “good lady” but he doesn’t necessarily agree with her ways of doing things. Daniel then ended the conversation by asking Karen to vote for the right person.

Well, this is certainly a ride! It’s good that Karen had this conversation with the candidate. In fact, we would suggest talking to your candidates to know what they stand for and how they can add value to your life if they get elected.
