Westlife’s scheduled concert in Malaysia this year is bound to be an epic one as the tickets to both their shows on 8 and 9 August at Stadium Malawati, Shah Alam were sold out within 36 hours!
Malaysian fanatics of the Irish boy band who managed to get their hands on the tickets after waiting hours and hours in line are probably squirming in their seats as they wait in anticipation for the concert. Now, with two of their concerts selling out so fast, one can’t help but wonder if Westlife would consider having a third show, so we asked them ourselves!
In a phone interview last Thursday (25 April), we asked Mark Feehily if Westlife would ever consider having a third show, and he said that they would love to but unfortunately, they can’t because they ‘don’t have any days left’. This is referring to how packed their schedules are because of the tour.
“You know what, I would like to fly over there and not come home until we’ve done all the concerts properly, but we have absolutely considered,” he said.
He then added that they don’t have anymore dates available but assured us that they would definitely come back real soon.
“We’re only getting started, and with the new album coming out, we will absolutely be back to play more shows,” he said.
When asked about what comes to mind when he thinks about Malaysia, he said that he thinks about the people and how Westlife is always so welcomed here.
“Everything was so hyped up and amazingly crazy. Despite the different language and culture, they knew every song, even the name of my parents’ pet dog, my favourite colour!”
Later during the interview, Shane Filan gave us a little hint of what’s to come this August when he was asked how many songs Westlife would be performing. He said that they are looking at more than 20 songs per show, most of which would be the top hits from their earlier days.
“We are very lucky to have a back catalogue of hit songs, so the favourites are definitely going to be included. We don’t want to perform any songs that the fans don’t know so we’ll keep it to three new songs and the rest will be a blend of our hits,” he said.
Omg, so exciting!
After that, he added,
“Without a doubt Westlife has always had a special relationship with Malaysia.”
“Even when I went there myself in the last few years to promote my solo music, I saw how much Westlife means to Malaysia,” he said.
“It felt great that to know that it sold out really quickly. It gives us the confidence and excitement to come back to the country. This show really is the best Westlife show ever, on a different level all together.”
Well, I guess we can hold them to their word and expect them to come back to Malaysia real soon. In the meantime, you can listen to their brand new singles, Hello My Love and Better Man from their soon-to-be-released album, Spectrum.
