It is a reality that we need foreign workers in Malaysia to fill in the positions in certain industries so that the country can continue to develop. The real issue is when they start to take over certain industries previously not available for them and drive locals out of jobs and business.

Competition is healthy but when the locals seemed to be treated poorly in comparison with the foreign workers, something is wrong somewhere.

In a video shared by Deva Sangaran, an unnamed lorry driver was ranting about the reality of the businesses in Selayang. There, a couple of serious issues were highlighted.

From the footage, it can be seen that there were a lot of stalls selling raw ingredients and vegetables alongside the road and these stalls were all manned by foreign workers. Despite being set up illegally and the location of the stalls causing traffic disturbance, it seems no authorities have taken any action (yet).

As stated by the unnamed lorry driver, the authorities have taken more severe action on locals compared to the foreigners. Many stalls by the locals have been confiscated by them. When he drove by the stalls of the locals, they were either closed down or are experiencing problems as all their customers have fled to the more convenient stalls by the foreign workers which were located along side of the road.

The man also revealed that allegedly, these foreign workers are bribing the local authorities, hence, the lack of enforcement on them.

What can we actually take away from the video? Well, the most important thing is to investigate the lack of enforcement on these illegal pop up stalls. If these stalls are legal, what policy was used to allow them to do so?

Yes, we need the foreign workers but we also need to take care of the well beings of Malaysians. What do you think of this issue?
