Currency and capitalism might only be for primates like us. These monkeys, on the other hand, seem to favour the barter system.

In a video that has gone viral on different social media platforms, we see 4 monkeys perched on the roof of a temple in Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh, India.

The video was posted by @sevak_of_krsna on Instagram, and it has garnered more than 600,000 likes since the date of posting.

The short clip begins with the monkeys on the roof. It can be seen that one of them is holding onto a grey iPhone, and the people on the ground are looking up.

Soon after, a man threw a yellow packet up as a means to entice the monkey to let go of the phone.

It seems that the ‘offering’ was good enough, and a barter deal was made. The second time the yellow packet was thrown up, the monkey immediately let go of the phone and moved to catch its prize.

The phone then fell from the high building and was successfully caught by its owner. Those who were on the ground cheered for his successful deal in getting his phone back.

According to the video, the yellow packet was what they called a Frooti, which is a mango juice sold exclusively in India.

Monkeys are very intelligent creatures, and they know just how to get the things that they want.
