Fruits are sweet and tangy and we’ve never imagined cooking them as they are meant to be enjoyed fresh.
Recently, a video went viral in China where a food stall operator was stir-frying durians with strawberries and garlic.
The video starts with a woman making her order for a durian rice bowl and the cook asks her if she has any dietary restrictions.
He then proceeds to put the durian in an oiled wok. Later, he added carrots, MSG, ginger, garlic, chili, strawberries, sugar, and soy sauce and topped it off with coriander and spring onion. This list scarred us just a little bit.
Once the dish was ready, it was scooped up into a bed of white rice.
This ‘speciality’ is priced at 48 yuan, which is equivalent to RM31. When asked about the origins of this dish, the man says that his cousin in Guangxi gave him this recipe and that he sells about 5-6 of this dish per day.
Later in the video, the woman says that it tastes good, but it’s not suitable for her palate, so she probably will not be going back for more.
This video was reposted on Facebook, and many netizens have said that durian is best enjoyed from the shell.
“In my opinion, I think that the durian was wasted here. Durian is best eaten from the shell.”
“I finally understand how Italians feel when they see pineapple on pizza,” said another user.
