It’s no secret that a lot of people are struggling during this Covid-19 Movement Control Order (MCO).

But that doesn’t mean that there is no one out there willing to help. But whether or not the help goes to the right people is a different story.

The We Are Malaysians Facebook page took to their profile to showcase pictures of some people handing out free groceries as an act of charity. But the only problem is, the houses in which they are visiting to donate the food… are huge!

The page wrote, “Please give away to those who really need it.”

According to a netizen, the groceries given out as care packages are from the Tawau division of DAP.

The netizen explained, “These are care packages dispatched by YB Jimmy Wong’s team from Sri Tanjung. YB was chosen by the people, it is part of his responsibility to take care of the community. Before this incident, YB’s team went around flats and villages to give out care packs. Just because some of us live in a bigger house, does this mean we do not have the right to receive them?”

Many wondered: Should they accept free groceries when they can freely afford it themselves, considering they can live in big houses and afford multiple cars?

We truly admire and praise the group’s desire to give and be charitable but many pointed out that this move would serve a much better purpose if given to those who are starving because they have no work due to MCO.

It is understandable that they want to ensure that ‘no one gets left behind’, but execution for this initiative could likely be better.

We genuinely hope that they realise the flaw in their plan and proceed to donate to those who truly need it instead as there are people in Malaysia who are going to sleep hungry and afraid that they can’t provide food for their families during this difficult time.

Even when we think that we’ve helped them all, there’s always more people out there that cannot afford the simple luxuries of food. Find and help them instead.

What do you think? Should people who can afford large homes and multiple cars accept free groceries?
