The emergency lane is, like its name, a lane for emergency cases and in Malaysia, it gets misused a lot.
In a TikTok video that has gone viral with more than 600,000 views and 35,000 likes, a pregnant woman named Izatykhai spoke about her experience of being blocked by a van when using the emergency lane.
@izatykhai Pengalaman ✨ Terima kasih pada kereta yang beri laluan , kami suami isteri Betul emergency waktu tu ??
Nor Izzati binti Khairuddin, 23, told WORLD OF BUZZ that the incident happened on 26 October near Tapah.
At that time, she and her husband were going back to their home in Kuantan from Perak. Suddenly, Izzati felt a sharp pain in her genitals and liquid seeping out. When she looked down, it turns out that it was blood.
Izzati’s husband was panicking as she was bleeding out, so he turned on the hazard lights and made a move to the emergency lane.
The couple were both anxious and fearful as they had lost their first child due to a miscarriage.
Many cars made way for the couple but there was a van that blocked half of the emergency lane, seemingly on purpose.
“Maybe they thought that we wanted to cut the queue to get out of the jam as there was an accident in front.”
Later on, the van went from blocking half of the emergency lane to using it.
The expecting parents were scrambling to look for pen and paper to tell everyone that she was bleeding but they didn’t manage to find any.
“I was in pain and my husband was panicking but there was nothing we could do.”
Izzati’s husband then turned to the middle lanes. Thankfully, there were still cars that let them go first. They finally got to Tapah but it was lunchtime at the Tapah Health Clinic and the other clinics were full.
After going to a few clinics and seeing the same scene, they made the decision to forge on to Kuantan as Izzati was feeling a little better. When they reached there, they were referred to the hospital where she had to stay in the ward for 3 days and 2 nights.
Izzati told WORLD OF BUZZ that the baby is okay now and is going into its 7th month. Speaking of this incident, she wants to remind everyone to not block emergency lanes.
“Don’t ever block the emergency lane, just think that the people using it are trying to save a life.”
Well, this is certainly something that road users need to bear in mind.
