A 34-year-old unemployed man in Kelantan was accused of sodomising a 10-year-old boy, to which he pleaded not guilty when charged in court.

He was suspected of sexually assaulting the underage boy inside a shipping container at Lembah Sireh in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, on June 12 at around 8pm.

The accused, Che Asmizan Che Jaafar, pleaded not guilty at the Kota Bharu Sessions Court today (June 22), and sought trial. He was charged under Section 14(d) Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which, if found guilty, may land him imprisonment of up to 20 years.

The accused, who lives in Kampung Kok Pasir, Tumpat, was not represented by a lawyer and was told by the court to hire an attorney due to the seriousness of the case, reported Berita Harian.

The court also did not grant any bail, with the case set for a re-mention on July 21.
