Sports are a way for a lot of people to relieve stress and to get healthy. However, we’re left puzzled by this uncle in China’s actions.
Recently, the Xin An Jiang marathon was held in Jiande, China, on 6 November. The highlight of the marathon was not the winners but rather, a man named Chen who is in his 50s.
How did he steal the spotlight, you may ask? Well, this uncle ran the whole marathon while smoking cigarettes.
He had a pack of cigarettes with him and whenever he needed one, he pulled it out and lit it up, all while he was running the marathon.
Sohu reported that Uncle Chen finished the 42KM race in 3 hours 28 minutes and 45 seconds; with that timing, he was in 574th place.
With his puffing expertise, this marathon was definitely not his first rodeo.
It turns out that he first made his debut in 2017 and he actively joined all kinds of marathons up until 2019, reported HK01.
His record time in 2018 was 3 hours and 36 minutes, 3 hours and 32 minutes in 2019, and 3 hours and 28 minutes this year, which means that he’s getting faster as time goes by.
Even though the images of him smoking during a marathon were funny, many netizens believe that he shouldn’t continue doing it.
“I really despise people who smoke.”
“Serious runners don’t smoke.”
“Does this count as a doping violation?”
“He’s too addicted (to cigarettes).”
“Whoever runs next to him is really unlucky.”
Well, smoking is certainly not good for the lungs. The worse thing is, when a person smokes, they put the people around them at risk with the 2nd or 3rd hand smoke!
We certainly hope that uncle Chen will continue running, but maybe he should cut down on the chain smoking!
