Universiti Malaya (UM) has always been recognised as one of the most prestigious universities in the world. However, the British Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2023 have just revealed that UM is no longer in the top 350 universities in the world.
Previously, UM had always been in the 301-350 band, and as of now, Sin Chew reported that the university has dropped to the 351-400 band.
On a brighter note, a record number of 22 Malaysian universities made it into 2023’s world university rankings, compared to 18 last year. Here are the 4 new additions.
- Sunway University (801-1000)
- Universiti Malaysia Pahang (801-1000)
- Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (1201 -1500)
- Universiti Malaysia Sabah (1501+)
Despite seeing a drop in ranking, UM still sees itself maintaining its dominant position as the country’s top-performing institution. UM is followed by Universiti Teknologi Petronas and Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), which both maintained their rankings in the 401-500 band.
In the meantime, here’s a list of local universities that maintained their rankings in the 601-800 band.
- Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM)
- Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM)
- Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM)
- Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM)
