WATCH: UK YouTuber Tries the “M’sian Hand Sign” to Cross the Road in KL & it Works, Netizens Impressed
If you’re a foreigner living in Malaysia, chances are you’ll adapt (you probably have to) to the lifestyles in the country. As Malaysians, we have many hand signs that replace the need to verbally speak out our intention, such as placing your orders or settling your bills at the restaurant.
And as Malaysians, we have a hand sign that’s able to stop the traffic, even on a busy street! Just recently, a UK YouTuber who is based in Kuala Lumpur shared a short clip of her stopping the traffic on a busy street in Brickfields, KL. She did it like any of us would do – putting up our hand towards the incoming cars not only to ’stop’ them but also as a ’token of appreciation’ for letting us cross the road.
The Youtuber, Nicole demonstrated her attempt to use the Malaysian hand sign via her TikTok, and in just a few seconds, she managed to cross the road safely.
“It actually worked,” Nicole chuckled.
“That’s how powerful the hand sign is”
In the comment sections, many Malaysians have taken the opportunity to share what they think about what they saw, and some of them were proud to see a foreigner adapting one of the many Malaysian lifestyles.
One of the netizens claimed that we duplicated the hand sign from a scene in the Terminator movie.
Another netizen suggested Nicole raise her hand higher as it may be dangerous to lift up the hand as low as Nicole did.
You can watch the clip below.

Fellow Malaysian drivers, do you “receive” this hand sign often on the road? While this “powerful” hand sign may work, it’s important to observe the speed of the incoming traffic to avoid any unwanted accidents.
