Two Criminals Killed in Shootout With Police in Kedah, Suspects Linked to Criminal Group in Klang

Two men suspected of being criminals were killed in a shootout with police at the entrance ramp of the North-South Expressway (PLUS) at 8:05 am on Saturday.

Kedah Police Chief, Datuk Fisol Salleh, said that prior to the incident, police officers patrolling the area encountered a suspiciously driven four-wheel-drive vehicle and ordered the suspects to stop.

“The suspects refused to cooperate and opened fire on the police vehicle, leading to a shootout that resulted in both men being killed inside their vehicle at the scene.”

A search of the vehicle uncovered two pistols, a revolver and a semi-automatic, several live bullets, a machete, and various tools believed to be used in their criminal activities.

One of the suspects, aged 41, had over 40 prior criminal records, while the identity of the second man remains unknown due to the absence of identification documents.

“We believe they were part of a larger group involved in violent crimes nationwide, including drug trafficking, gangsterism, factory break-ins, and armed robbery. This group is believed to have been active since 2020,” Fisol added.

So far, the forensic unit has recovered three bullet casings at the scene. The bodies of both suspects have been sent to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Setar for autopsy. The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code.

Meanwhile, Acting Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at Bukit Aman, Datuk Fadil Marsus, who also visited the scene, said the two men are believed to be part of a group involved in various serious crimes.

“We are investigating whether these suspects are linked to a criminal group in Klang, Selangor. That group is believed to have more than 30 members, and the police will take more aggressive action,” he added.
