The accused pleaded not guilty

The two 13-year-old girls have been charged with injuring and locking up the victimĀ in their school toilet last month, according to Harian Metro.

Both pleaded not guilty when the charges were read in Tamil before Magistrate Mohamad Azlan Basri.

For the first charge, they’re accused of working together to cause injury to another 13-year-old girl in the Form Six block toilet at around 6:40 PM on July 14.

The case falls under Section 323 of the Penal Code, read with Section 34 of the same Act, which carries up to a year in jail, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both if found guilty.

They asked for a lower bail

For the second charge, the pair were accused of locking the victim up at the same place, time, and date. This offence falls under Section 342 of the Penal Code, read with Section 34 of the same Act, and can lead to up to a year in jail, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.

Prosecutor Nur Hazwani Md Nor suggested bail at RM4,000 each, but their lawyer, N. Nagaratnam, requested a lower amount, saying the girls are still in school and have been fully cooperative with the police.

The court reduced the bail to RM2,000 each with one surety and told them not to bother the victim while the case is ongoing.

The case will be mentioned again on September 23.
