Hear ye, hear ye, bargain hunters and wanderlusters alike – an annual comparison cost study by TripAdvisor has just listed out the cheapest cities to spend your getaway at.
According to TripIndex Cities 2016, Hanoi is the best-value destination to travel to if you’re craving for a city break. Our very own Kuala Lumpur made it on the list, nabbing the spot as fourth cheapest city to travel to!
The city with the best value was determined on factors like the cost of accommodation, cost of eating out, cost of entrance fees to tourist attractions and transportation costs in the city.
The study compared the cost of a three-night break during the summer travel period of June-September, across 20 key tourist cities such as New York, Madrid and Hong Kong.

Results of the study revealed that the average price for a short break during this season is $1,337 – excluding flight costs.
Better still, the report added that the best-value vacations are mostly in Asia as four of the top 10 cheapest destinations are all located within Southeast Asia! Although we’re not too sure how they came up with their lunch & dinner figures.
As for the most expensive countries, our neighbouring country Singapore is listed as the 6th most expensive country in the world, while New York City is ranked the top most expensive destination.
