The desire to ease the burden of the population when faced with the difficulties of the Covid-19 pandemic prompted one young Sabahan not wait for help but instead be the help that the people required.

24-year-old Adrian Edy Siaw Chee Hua decided to activate a food bank, the first one being at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Pomotodon in Inanam, Sabah to help those who needed it.

According to Adrian, the food bank has been activated with the aim of giving locals the opportunity to get a free supply of essential goods.

He told WORLD OF BUZZ that the idea to activate this food bank arose after seeing the difficulty of the people here who are largely underprivileged and consist of single mothers, the elderly and the Disabled (OKU), to attain daily necessities during the pandemic with most of their livelihood affected by it. He said,

“I can’t stand seeing them suffering and some can’t event afford to buy milk for their children. Most of them lost their source of income during the pandemic and this is why I decided to help. Although not much, but to see them smiling is good enough for me.”

Apart from the food bank, Adrian has also been busy going around the community with the latest being him helping the bus drivers who can’t operate at the moment as all the schools are closed.

Adrian hopes that he could inspire more people to help those in need. He urges everyone not to wait. No matter how small the effort, it will largely affect someone’s livelihood. So just take that first step in helping the community you are in.

Kudos to Adrian for taking the initiative to help the community in Sabah. For those who are interested in contributing to his effort, you can visit his Facebook page here. We do need more people like Ustaz Ebit Liew and Adrian Edy who do not linger or waste time when it comes to helping the people. In the end, as Malaysians, we should care for our own.
