Faster, harder, better, stronger – these are the lyrics of Daft Punk’s 2001 hit, and they also happen to be things we look for in a good Wi-Fi connection! Well, Speedtest, the website which helps measure the speed of your Internet, has now released its fixed broadband report for Malaysia, and Time has been crowned the fastest fixed network!
The results, which were first reported by Soya Cincau, are tabulated based on 12 million consumer-initiated tests, and accumulated over Q3 and Q4 of 2018. They showed that Time was capable of scoring average download speeds of up to 266Mbps, and upload speeds of 286Mbps. If numbers alone don’t impress you, get this – this is more than twice the speeds of TM and Maxis. Check out this diagram below:
To avid broadband observers, Time’s award should come as little surprise, seeing as it is a 100% fibre network, and devoid of copper, which limits bandwidth. Also, TM Unifi and Maxis’s MaxisONE Home Fibre plans only go up to 100Mbps at the highest, whereas Time’s fastest package goes up to 1Gbps. Additionally, Time’s plans start at 100Mbps, which are priced at RM99/month.
That said, due to Time’s comparatively limited coverage, its users based on the test count currently stands at 236,571, which is dwarfed by TM’s 1,375,047 Unifi test users. Maxis has 318,389 test users, and Digi also made the list, coming in fourth with 123,110 test users. As many of us are living in landed properties know, Time’s infrastructure currently only covers high-rise properties such as condominiums.
To this accolade, Chief Technology Officer at TIME dotcom Ang Thing Jiun said,
“Our commitment in delivering exceptional availability, speed and reliability on our fibre optic network continues, and we will keep pushing the boundaries of technology to further improve customers’ internet experience.”
Congratulations to Time for this much-deserved award! Now, us non-high rise dwellers are just going to patiently sit here and wait for the day we can finally try its network out!
