Jellied eels are a traditional English dish that originated in the 18th century, primarily in the East End of London. The dish consists of chopped eels boiled in a spiced stock that is allowed to cool and set, forming a jelly. It is usually served cold.
Taking a leaf out of this British classic, one netizen in Indonesia attempted to recreate the dish, using local catfish. Here is a video of this person’s attempt.
Combining jelly powders, catfish and a mould, this netizen shared how she cooked the dish, wait for the dish to set, before finally eating it – to everyone’s horror.
Not gagging, netizens were divided with what they witnessed.
“I know there are jellied eels in British cuisine, but we do not need to bring this atrocity here.”
“Imagine the smell!”
Others shared images of jelly-based dishes, to which many were quite positive at this netizen’s attempts.
