The drains typically don’t smell pleasant but recently, a stench disrupted the public in the Batu Caves area and while they didn’t feel good about it, the pungent smell raised their concern and curiosity.

Members of the public’s curiosity led them to a gruesome discovery – a hand, which was thought to be a dismembered one. After looking further, the public realised that it was a floating corpse of an unknown man, reported Oriental Daily.

The discovery was made yesterday (22 June) and PDRM received a report from the public around 3:15 pm, before they alerted the Fire Department and Rescue Team from Selayang. The team then arrived at the scene, which was located near a frozen food store. Most of the body was covered in leaves and rubbish.

A total of 8 officers from the Fire Department and 2 machines were used to remove the body from the drain. Unfortunately, the corpse was beyond recognisable because it had decomposed, making it tough, or nearly impossible for the authorities to identify the body. No one could tell if the deceased is a local or a foreigner.

It took them only a few minutes to remove the body, and the body has been passed over to police for further investigations and identification.

This is not the first time a body was discovered in the drain. Back in 2019, a body was discovered inside a drain in Gombak. The hand and feet of the deceased were tied up, and his head was covered with a shirt. In 2022, a male corpse was discovered just beside the drain in Sibu, Sarawak. The body was surrounded by maggots when it was found.

Regardless, we do hope that the truth about the recent discovery will soon come to light.
