A Chinese tourist is praising a Malaysian e-hailing driver for going above and beyond to help her when her child got sick.

Taking to her XiaoHongShu account, 雪莉💖带你大马游学 (Sherry – Transliteration), who was in Kuala Lumpur during Chinese New Year, shared how her child had suddenly developed a fever, causing her to become frantic.

At that point, Sherry had waited until 8am for pharmacies to open and booked a Grab ride. When she was picked up, the Grab driver asked her if everything was okay as she seemed anxious.

Using a translation application on her phone, Sherry told the driver about her daughter’s condition, leading the driver to ask if she wanted to head to the destination she had chosen or any nearby pharmacy. She decided to go to any nearby pharmacy.

His help went beyond finding a pharmacy!

When they arrived at a nearby shopping mall, instead of dropping Sherry off and merely informing her that she could find pharmacies inside, the Grab driver went with her to a pharmacy to ensure clear communication with the staff there, out of fear that there would be communication issues due to language barriers.

“I thought I was being dropped off, but he stopped the car and accompanied me to look for a pharmacy. I felt that he was worried I wouldn’t be able to communicate smoothly with the pharmacy staff,”

“He spoke to the pharmacy staff, to which the staff brought me medicine, and we used the translation application to discuss the dosage of my child’s medicine,” she said.

The driver refused to take extra money

The driver then sent Sherry back, and even refused the RM50 that she offered him. Instead, he only asked for RM20 as a fare for the journey.

On top of that, the driver also stopped at a restaurant on their journey back, and gestured that she should get some food for her child.

“I just wanted to highlight this amazing driver. If you have the opportunity, I hope you guys get to ride in his car when you go (to KL).”
