A mosque is more than just a spiritual place, but also the centre of the local community and this is an amazing initiative to promote healthy lifestyle!

The Mukim Sri Aman Mosque in Pasir Puteh, Kelantan made history for being the first mosque to offer gymnasium facilities within our country. Aimed to promote a healthy lifestyle amongst the local community and regular visitors of the mosque, the gymnasium was officially opened today.

As reported by Sinar Harian, the Mukim Sri Aman Mosque chairman, Ab Razak Mat Saad hopes that the gym facility will benefit some 1,000 regular visitors of the mosque to live an active, healthy lifestyle. The mosque management is very serious in doing so, that they even hired a personal trainer to guide visitors on how to use the equipments!

The chairman said that the cost to build the gym and purchase its equipments were around RM17,000 and he actually used his own money as downpayment.

Ab Razak was quoted of saying,

“This is one of our initiatives to diversify the mosque’s role in the community and to not make it seem like a mosque’s role is restricted for only spiritual reasons.”

The mosque’s management also hoped that this initiative would attract more young people to come and be active in the community. As of right now, the gym is free to use but there will be a small fee in the future in order to keep up with the maintenance costs.

This is such an awesome initiative! Hopefully other places of worship would follow suit in promoting healthy lifestyle but of course, please follow strict SOPs during this Covid-19 pandemic.
