Going on dates have been nearly impossible during the lockdowns. Since there are fewer restrictions now, how about going for a unique experience in a digital art gallery? Don’t say we bojio…
At first glance, DAG by Filamen‘s Instagram feed looks so cool that we can’t help but scroll in a dreamlike fashion. Their feed, of course, features art installations by local artists and it allows you to have an immersive experience like none other.
As we are not artists or even worthy enough to critique, we sat down with the founder of Filamen (a new media art collective) and director at the Digital Art Gallery (DAG), Shakir to be a little more “cultured”.
Hold hands while watching trance like installations
According to Shakir, the DAG (which stands for digital art gallery) is “an immersive projection space for artists to exhibit their work“.
So if you bring your date here, you can see installations that come in many forms such as motion graphics, photography, videography, film, etc. Then the both of you will not run out of topics to talk about while looking at the installation.
“The space itself is available to any artists from any background and not exclusively for digital artists. The idea is for them to fully utilise the immersiveness of the space for their work or their performance.”
The art installations change monthly and if you would like to catch a certain exhibition, you will definitely need to follow them on Instagram.
The entry fee is RM8 per entry but for certain events or exhibitions, there may be additional charges.
Are you afraid of the dark?
As this gallery features digital art, it needs to be a little dark for the iridescent lights of the installations to shine.
What does this mean? Ambience, of course!
So you can take really IG-worthy pictures with your date and if you are sneaky enough, you can sneak a cheeky kiss into the equation as well, amirite?
We believe that DAG will be a great place for people to go on dates together or even families to go on outings as it makes art less intimidating and more accessible to anyone and everyone.
A romantic atmosphere for your first date? Check! A new experience for you and your family? Check!
The experience is really what you want to make it to be.
DAG by Filamen is open on Fridays to Sundays from 11am to 6pm. It is located on Level 3, Kedai KL, Mahsa Avenue, Petaling Jaya.
