The Rest & Relaxation (RnR) areas in Malaysia offer a plethora of food for road users who need a quick break and refreshment, but a Malaysian man recently questioned the lack of food choices in the RnR stops.

The man highlighted that there were only Malay restaurants at the RnR stops, claiming that the Chinese and Indians are left with no other food to eat.

A Malaysian man claimed eateries in RnR areas in Malaysia don’t cater for all Malaysians

He also pointed out that Malaysians of all races stop at RnR areas in Malaysia, saying that the places should also serve Chinese and Indian dishes for everyone’s convenience.

The lack of options in other cuisines may leave the Chinese and Indians with no other food option, prompting the man to call for the management to take immediate action on the matter.

“Do they think all Chinese can take spicy food? Do they think all Indians take beef?”

“RnR should also sell Chinese and Indian food. What can they eat now? Management should do something about it. How could they not consider this?” the man said in a viral video.

He then gave the example that the RnR he was at only sells Malay food such as chicken rice and Gulai Lemak Salai (smoked meat stewed in coconut milk).

“No problem, we can eat Nasi Kandar!”

While social media users agreed with the man’s take on the lack of options in RnR stops, others said that it’s not a big issue, saying that other races also enjoy Malay dishes.

One Malaysian Chinese user said that he’s happy to feast on Nasi Kandar, Chicken Rice, and other Malay dishes.

Another user said that as an Anak Malaysia, many opt for Malay food during their lunch break at work.

“Whatever the Malays eat, other races can eat too. That is what’s unique about Malay food, and I have friends who are Chinese and Indians who enjoy Malay food, paired with ulam!”

Do you think the management of RnR stops should add more cuisines?
