There’s a Whimsical & Multi-Sensory Fine Dining Experience in KL & It Starts on 28 April!
There are loads of fine dining experiences in Malaysia that seem to offer a plethora of awesome food but Whimsy has taken this to the next level. In the first-of-its-kind multi-sensory, fine dining experience, Whimsy promises a meal like you have never experienced before and luckily for WORLD OF BUZZ, we were actually one of the first people to try it out at its new location at Skyland, Jalan Bukit Bintang.

This pop-up experience is located on the same lot where Plane in the City and Dinner in the Sky takes place so you know that you’re in good hands if you want a unique dining experience. Simply put, Whimsy combines award-winning international chefs with state of the art 360° projection technology into an epicurean journey that is out of this world.
In fact, when we first entered the magical dining room, it felt like we had stepped into another world as we were greeted by stunning projections that surrounded every inch of the place. The clever people at Whimsy transported us into different ‘worlds’ with each course that was like a symphony on our senses.

It’s also a very personalised experience as we had place settings and glittering archways with our names on it to welcome us. Besides, diners can interact with the animations as well by using iPads to look up our horoscopes mapped on the walls or to write wishes on floating sky lanterns and even “break the ice” by knocking hard on the table to get to our next delightful course. It was super fun, honestly!

For foodies out there, don’t worry though because you will be served with a five-course menu that is a gastronomical delight curated by Chef Jeffrey Ramsey, the youngest Michelin-starred chef in Japan. There are two menus to choose from, the Gold Journey Menu or the Platinum Journey Menu and we had the privilege of feasting on the former.
Here’s what we had for dinner:
1. Biodome

This was the first course and it looked otherworldly and exotic, like something from another planet. Made of smoked duck and lentil salad, squid ink risotto moon rock, pesto and roselle geodesic bubbles that formed a medley of flavours to tantalise our taste buds paired with galactic projections on the walls and table. This was when we could check out our horoscopes using augmented reality, which was a pretty cool experience!

2. The Nest

After the scenery in the magical room transitioned into a forest wonderland complete with cheeky fairies, we were treated to the second course. Consisting of 63-degree egg, asparagus, parmesan cheese, mushroom duxelles and chicken jus that tasted divine, this was served on a “bird’s nest” that seemed only apt, considering our surroundings.

3. The Sea

Before we could get to this course, we had another interactive experience where we had to knock on the table to “break the ice” and unveil an aquatic domain. Colourful sealife surrounded us as our roast scallop, Japanese turnip, samphire and red ogo seaweed on a whimsical shell was served to us. This was hands down one of the best dishes of the night thanks to the big, juicy scallop that will simply delight your taste buds!

4. Popcorn & Chocolate

Next up, we had a circus experience and were instructed to clap our hands to light up the circus backdrop and cheered for our next dish. This consisted of the main course, the pan seared foie gras with chocolate perfumed jus and free-range chicken with popcorn sauce that was a tad too rich for us but its sweet and savoury notes balanced out the intensity of the foie gras.

Finally, we were at the last course, a sweet treat to round up what has been a liberal treat for the senses. Before the dessert arrived, we were presented with iPads once again and could write our wishes down which could be projected on virtual sky lanterns floating around the room. The dessert was made of white chocolate egg, praline and dark chocolate fuilletine, vanilla creme pate and fresh fruits looked unassuming at first until you knocked on it to get to the decadent sweetness inside.
