Hong Kong actor Mat Yeung, who runs a roast meat shop in SS2, Petaling Jaya, found himself in an unexpected situation after local authorities ordered the outlet to temporarily cease operations.

The restaurant, Six Hub Roast House, was previously reported to have been flagged by the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) after its kitchen equipment was found occupying part of the back area, and some unwashed dishes were also left there. MBPJ then issued the shop a closure notice.

Lesson learnt

According to Mat, the outlet was allegedly not given a prior warning before the closure, leaving the team surprised when enforcement officers arrived.

Sin Chew Daily reported that Mat explained that the situation was partly because the shop was short-handed in its early days. Some equipment had been temporarily placed at the back while the team handled daily operations and tried to keep the business running smoothly.

Mat also said his Malaysian friends told him it was rare for a store to shut down immediately after discovering a problem, especially not without a warning.

Rather than fight the closure, Mat said the incident taught the business a lesson.

“It’s actually a small matter. But since the authorities see the situation as serious, we’ll definitely pay more attention.”

“We’ll learn from the situation and make sure a similar situation does not repeat in the future.”

Necessary improvements will be made

The restaurant has since promised to make the necessary improvements, including cleaning up the premises, improving its kitchen arrangements and reviewing how equipment is stored.

Mat also acknowledged the shop could have handled things better, saying the experience reminded them to ensure the outlet stays compliant and that the same situation doesn’t happen again.

Six House Roast House management shared an official announcement on Monday (24 August), apologising to customers for the inconvenience and clarifying that the closure followed authorities’ findings that its kitchen was occupying public space. They also denied that the restaurant closed because of hygiene issues.

If all goes well, the restaurant is expected to reopen on Wednesday (26 August), after the rectification work is completed.
