In an effort to protect his daughter-in-law, a durian tycoon in Thailand offered a THB30,000 (~RM3,866) reward to anyone willing to physically assault his son’s mistress, as he feared the affair would tear apart his family.

The tycoon, Arnon Rodthong, revealed the affair on his now-deleted Facebook post, saying that he was too old to confront the mistress, but was willing to reward anyone willing to slap the woman in the face.

According to The Thaiger, Arnon said the mistress deserved the outcome for her deception.

“To every gang in Lang Suan district, I’m willing to pay THB30,000 to anyone who slaps my son’s mistress. You must slap her in the face at least ten times.”

“Whoever completes the task can claim the money from me. She deserves it because she’s having an affair.”

In his deleted post, Arnon also dubbed the mistress “wicked” for cheating in her marriage.

The mistress was also part of the family

Arnon later revealed that the mistress, known as On, was one of his employees before marrying his nephew. She later began an affair with Arnon’s married son, and Arnon promised to pay the fines imposed on the attackers by the police.

The tycoon went as far as promising a reward of THB50,000 (~RM6,443) for the police should they manage to arrest his son.

Arnon also urged the police to locate his son’s pickup truck, alleging that he was carrying firearms. He said the reward would remain valid until his son cut ties with the mistress.

Reward cancelled, cutting ties with son

On 8 October, the tycoon changed his mind.

Arnon officially cancelled the reward and told the media that he had cut ties with his son over the matter, and the decision to cancel the reward came after he was convinced not to resort to violence. For his peace of mind, Arnon chose to move forward by cutting ties with his son and deciding that his son does not deserve his wealth.

“From now on, I am cutting all ties with my son, Chai. I will confiscate all assets that I had placed in his name. My lawyer will reclaim them and transfer them to Chai’s daughter, my granddaughter. I forgive him and let him go.”

What do you think of Arnon’s last resort?
